Clariant Singapore Upgrades Enterprise Communication Infrastructure

with Terra Systems using Avaya IP Solutions

 

 

CLIENT OVERVIEW

Clariant is a global leader in the field of specialty chemicals, represented on five continents with over 100 groups, headquartered in Muttenz near Basel, Switzerland.  Spanning approximately 150 years, it has amassed knowledge and experience in the chemical industry and has current emerging markets within the South East Asia and Pacific regions.

Clariant’s ‘2010 strategy’ made way for the relocation of its Textile business unit from Reinach, Switzerland to Singapore.  The Singapore head office, located within the International Business Park, now manages the operational execution of Clariant’s business support and service functions and hosts as the SAP Core Competence Center for Asia with a team of more than 20 SAP consultants.  Clariant’s production site on the other hand, is located at Third Chin Bee Road, Jurong Industrial Estate, which produces masterbatches for domestic and export sales.

 

THE BUSINESS CHALLENGE

With an increasing workforce of around 200 employees, Clariant needed a robust, dependable and secured central communication system to support their two Singapore sites.  Clariant realised the need for a new, reliable and cost-effective IP-based infrastructure which will enable them to maximize overall productivity, efficiency and reliability.  On the other hand, it is also a challenge to find a single vendor who has proven track records and capability to deploy a wide range of solution within a short frame within a month.

 

THE TERRA SYSTEMS APPROACH

Terra Systems fits into Clariant’s plan as a single vendor, having been assessed in many different checks including financial background. Terra Systems deployed Avaya Communications Manager as the main voice server, running on the complex data networks set up by Terra Systems. The networks include switches, routers and access points to set up new LAN, WAN and wireless LAN infrastructure across 3 levels of the office at International Business Park. Terra Systems also set up the server room that include FM200, Server racking, structure cabling and UPS to provide redundant power supply.

In voice applications Terra Systems deployed over 200 IP phones and IP conference phones across the offices and provided various features: central management for Clariant’s call accounting system, auto attendant, a public announcement over IP phones, small call center solution and a cost saving solution for their mobile workers in Singapore and abroad. 

With an upgraded communication infrastructure in place in Singapore offices, Clariant now enjoys the benefits of converged data and voice technology which greatly improved their communication efficiency and lower total call costs.  The long term gain of having a solid foundation with scalable system allows modular expansion and upgrades of their communication functionalities in the future for their ever growing business needs.
